I’m Shilpa Aswal, the founder of Subarnam Silks, based in Brisbane, Australia. With a Master’s degree in Information Technology and an MBA, my professional journey began in the healthcare sector, where I currently work as a Program Test Manager. Over the years, I have had the privilege of leading large-scale digital transformation projects focused on modernizing patient chart systems across public and private hospitals within Queensland.
While I deeply valued my professional career, I always carried a strong passion for Indian sarees, handlooms, and heritage jewellery. What began as a personal love for timeless craftsmanship gradually transformed into a meaningful entrepreneurial journey.
Our journey in the ethnic fashion industry first began in Australia with Kanchi Australia — a brand built with passion, dedication, and a vision to bring authentic Indian ethnic wear closer to the Indian community in Australia. The overwhelming love and trust we received from customers helped us grow rapidly, and within a remarkably short span of time, we successfully expanded our presence across two major Australian cities — Melbourne and Brisbane.
Over the years, Kanchi Australia gave us invaluable experience and deep insight into the Australian market — understanding customer preferences, quality expectations, styling trends, and the growing appreciation for authentic Indian craftsmanship outside India.
This experience eventually gave birth to Subarnam — a brand created with a larger global vision.
